WHEN WE LEAN INTO DISCOMFORT
OUR HIDDEN GRIEF ARISES AND TRANSFORMS
INTO PEACE
When any kind of discomfort arises most of us have learnt to move away from it , looking to avoid the associated pain . Of course it is natural not to wish to suffer, however what we miss is that pain is a communication, whether emotional or physical , and if we have the courage to listen to it we will find something very relevant in its sharing.
The resistance to pain requires effort to either distract ourselves from it or suppress it. Either way it needs energy to hold it at bay, which builds over time the more we swallow. A internal dam is constructed to hold back this reservoir becoming more pressurized over time and creating stress in our lives as we seek to avoid its message.
Eventually exhausted from this we have an illness, emotional breakdown, or stress related incident and we have to face it. Yet this is the key to healing . For when we lean into our discomfort and sit with it , the hidden grief of our live's arises. Although it may be triggered by a current situation , often the emotion that arises is disproportionate, as it is actually the deeper wounds arising to be grieved.
If we can courageously lean into this situation and create a safe space in which to grieve, the dam breaks and the lake of tears is allowed to wash us clean. This supports our true healing as once dissipated there is space within for true peace to reside.
