TRUE RESILIENCE IS TO OPEN OUR HEART WIDER WHEN WE FEEL THREATENED NOT SHUT IT DOWN
In our lives the first reaction when we feel threatened is to shut our heart. To pull up the drawbridge and close the gates; to defend ourselves against this perceived attack so that we may make ourselves feel safe and secure.
However this method actually doesn't work at all because the result is that our fear increases and our peace lessens.
We have been taught that to be strong is an alignment with to be aggressive and forceful , yet when we do this we shut down our own heart and in doing so create a blockage within ourselves that prevents us from feeling free and expansive . So instead of feeling better we actually feel worse and become restricted by our own defensive prison.
True resilience is when we feel ourselves under attack , we pause and instead of shutting down and pulling away we actually breathe into the moment and open our hearts in compassion. If we realize that the person ahead of us is a reflection of our own inner judgment we can see the gift in what they are sharing and the opportunity to grow as we keep our hearts open to them. Instead of the fear escalating, the love permeates their own restrictive nature and the opportunity for compassion and true connection arises.
